Application process

Please review this guidance before you submit your proposal for the Global Scale-Up Programme. The three parts of the submission process are outlined below and you can download the scoring rubric to get an idea of what assessors will be looking for in successful proposals. The scoring for your proposal will go through two phases.

  • Phase 1 - the Sifting Stage: This evaluation process will be used to choose 8-10 companies per region from all submissions to participate in the Exploration Stage.

  • Phase 2- the Interview Stage: We will use this phase to choose 4-5 companies per region to participate in a single cohort as part of a 7 week Global Scale-up Safari™ rotating through each Alliance Member Region weekly. This stage will include a presentation as part of the evaluation. 

How to apply

  2. Fill in application form and tick the Ts & Cs acceptance box

  3. Email to [email protected] with the subject line - ‘GSUP2 Application’ - no later than 09:00 BST Monday 6th June 2022

  • This section asks some overview questions about your company and solution. We will use this as background information for the benefit of the other regional teams. It is not scored.

    Information you will need to provide

    1. The country your company is based in

    2. Your name

    3. Your Company

    4. Your email address

    5. State the challenge for which you are applying

    6. In three sentences, describe your solution

    7. What is your one big stat? (eg. % reduction / x units increase)

    8. Outline where you are in your investment journey (no more than 100 words)

    9. Who are the key individuals involved? (no more than 150 words)

    10. List up to ten tags that you would use to describe your company and solution [e.g. AI; food wastage; series A; ] (These will be used to help with searching for your company)

    11. How did you hear about the CivTech Alliance Global Scale-up Programme?

    12. (If you applying from South America then you will be requested to provide a video no longer than 5 minutes long explaining:

      Why do you want to get involved in this programme?
      How do you see participation adding value to your business?
      Who are the top stakeholders you want to engage with?
      What stage are you at in your investment journey and where do you need help in progressing this?

      Please record this in English. Should you be selected to any further stages, this content may be used as part of the marketing collateral.

  • For absolute clarity, we are using the global definition of innovation: innovation occurs when someone improves on or makes a significant contribution to an existing invention, product, process or service. Improvements may manifest themselves in areas including [but not limited to] performance, delivery, cost efficiencies, increased effectiveness, ease of use etc

    You will need to answer each of the below areas (max 250 words per question/area)

    1. Explain how your idea and solution is innovative, and how it will meet your chosen challenge. 

    2. Explain how your idea and solution is suitable for your target region (NA / SA / EUR / MEA / ASIA / AUS / GLOBAL). Who are the end users and how does it meet the needs and expectations (policy objectives / commitments) of the region? 

    3. How feasible is your idea? Explain the financial and operational considerations for the application of the solution, including the main barriers and blockers to roll out. 

  • You will need to answer each of the below areas (max 250 words per question)

    1. Explain the stage of maturity of the solution, and its potential to be scaled regionally and globally. Consider the market potential of the idea and how it can be applied across a range of settings and sectors

    2. What is the competitive advantage of the idea, and outline the market of the solution and your competitors?

    3. Provide details of your development plan for the solution, and the stages of implementation.

  • If your proposal successfully progresses to the interview stage, we will apply the following criteria in addition to evaluation criteria 1 to assess whether you progress to the Global Scale-up Safari. You will have an opportunity later in the programme to submit evidence for this evaluation criteria. For the interview you will be asked to present on your proposal and this will also form part of the evaluation 

    1. Capability of the team and company - we will be assessing how your team has the capability to implement and scale your solution 

    2. Motivation of the team and company - we will assess whether the organisation has the motivation and skills to capitalise on the opportunities provided by participating in GSUP 2.0 and further field testing 

    3. How diverse is the company and the team assigned to the challenge?

    4. What value will your company bring to the programme and your fellow cohort?members?
